Book Review: Who Moved My Cheese?: An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life

Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson is a short but sweet story about change and how to deal with it. depending on one's perspective, you can see change as a blessing or a curse.

There are four characters in this story. Sniff and Scurry are mice, they are simply, non-analytic, they just want cheese and are willing to do whatever it takes to get it.

Hem and Haw are "little people," mouse-size humans who have complex brains and over analyze. They get lazy. They feel entitled and don't want to change. Their lives and belief systems are built around the cheese they've found.

In this story, you can view cheese as something related to our livelihoods--our jobs, our career paths, companies--or it can relate to our personal lives such as our relationships, marriages etc.

The point of the story is that:

  1. We have to be alert to changes in the cheese AND

  2. We have to be prepared to go running off in search of new sources of cheese when the cheese runs out.
