Book Review: The Freeway Guide to Confident Public Speaking: Secrets for Painless Presentations! (Audiobook)

I rented this book by Susan Leahy from our public library on my iPhone. I must say that this books a lot of practical advice and tips in 80 minutes and is definitely worth listening to on commute to work.

This audio book is divided into two sections, the confident speaker's mind, and practical tips. Public speaking is really about conquering your insecurities. Half of the battle is won when the speaker decides to stay, and ride out the nervous energy.

According to Leahy, the nervous energy deep down is simply energy that shows up to make you competitive. If your ride it out, it actually makes you highly aware of your surroundings and your speech. She calls this the STAY model.

The second section of this book provides helpful tips like smiling before you speak, taking enough pauses, cultivating proper tones, male vs. female voice, and body language. Overall, a great reference book.
